SOLO TRANSCRIPTION
ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET
Diatonic chord and scale solo

Check the video: https://youtu.be/1EeC_BjxuzQ

On the Sunny Side of the Street is a fun tune to play.

The tune has some nice secondary dominant changes which surprises.

The melody is very strong and outlining the chords pretty good.

In this solo transcription I will walk you through the most important music theory regarding the chord and chord analysis.

Explain a couple of the more exciting functions in the tune

The focus in the solo is playing inside the key of the tune – D major, using diatonic arpeggios and scales.
There are some double time lines. These are also kept within the diatonic scales and arpeggios.

In the analysis I have mentioned approach notes, chromatic and diatonic.
I have also focused to explain my thinking when playing a solo.
Like motivic movement and repeats, melodic development etc.

Since most of the solo is diatonic I have mostly not mentioned the common scales and arpeggios.
My mentions are the irregular places where the solo goes beyond the diatonic functions.

There is a full solo transcription of two rounds of solo + a solo analysis of the full solo – what is played where and why.

Go through the exercises and the solo etudes and get from basic knowledge in no time.
